Found my thingy

Alton is just cool.

I know none of those other people - I was taking the picture, not being in it.

If you are not Alton Brown and you are in this picture and you do not wish to have your image portrayed and/or published in any fashion on the internet well then I reckon you shouldn't have showed up in a public place, huh?

GOOD EATS

Good Eats is my favorite show on the FoodTV network. One of my favorite shows on any channel. Alton Brown kicks total ass and F-U if you don't agree. So I am damn near ecstatic that I got to meet him at a local book store when he did a signing session and short talk with Q&A from the audience. He signed two books and a flyer for the OG and I got to tell him personally how much I enjoy his work. When someone does good work I am a big believer in letting that person know it. Without being like a creepy stalker fan, of course....Alton was very funny and extremely gracious and he vowed to stay until every last person there got whatever they brung signed. I know I was in line for a couple hours and I was less than half way back so he had to have been there for a loooooong time. That's how ya know when someone is good people. And you didn't have to have his new book either - he was signing whatever a person brought with the exception of live critters. (He said he had a bad experience with a ferret once so critters was out.) We took pictures too - but I can't find that little cable thingy to download them to my computer - I know that's very un-Geekly to not have whatever piece of technology you need right at hand in a numbered drawer with pictures and descriptions on the front. So sue me. I'm a Geek. Not an organizer. I'll post up a pic when I dig through my stuff and find the cable. I could use the synch cable for my Palm TungstenE but that would require remembering to bring it home and then remembering to bring it back to work and that's seems to me to be an awful lot of remembering. I'm a Geek, not a rememberer.

Anyway - Thank you Alton Brown for a kick ass evening and a kick ass TV show.

OG out. (Yes that's 2 times in a row I signed off with "OG out". Yes I have been watching American Idol. But I swear it's only to make fun of the dorks who think they can sing. And Seacrest. He's the King Dork.)

Highland Games

Had a grand time at the Orlando Highland Games. Men in kilts. Women in Kilts. Some women in really short kilts. Thems was my favorites. Beer in mugs. Scotch in little plastic cups. Mostly. Enter The Haggis = great live Celtic band - their logo is my new wallpaper. For now.

Big ups to Christopher for coming in 3rd place (out of 40 something entrants) at the hatchet throwing contest - having never held a hatchet before in his life. Rock on, C-Dawg. Remind me never to piss you off. Remember - Morbid Angel is a great band, but not necessarily a good philosophy. Napalm Death, on the other hand, could be both.........

It was fun getting in touch with my Scottish roots. I WILL have a full dress kilt made from my family's tartan and learn how to play the bagpipes before I die. This I vow. Vowing like a motherfucker. Don't plan to wear anything under the kilt either. Real Scotsmen swing free.

OG out.

Kstritzer Schwarzbierbrauerei

Kstritzer Schwarzbierbrauerei

Sweet, sweet beer. Man, I have found the meaning of life. Koestritzer schwarzbier is it. They have it on tap at this German restaurant in Orlando (Gain's German Restaurant - on SOBT). I have never been a beer drinker of any note but this stuff is the real Black Gold. And if that wasn't good enough (and it should be) the food at Gain's is also absolutely spectacular. Weinerschnitzels the size of Frisbees, Sausages and wursts and all manner of succulent side dishes and desserts and bread and saurkraut.damn I'm getting hungry - I can only claim a great-grandfather of German descent - and he was gone long before I was even born - but I'm sure this is what he thought of when he imagined heaven.

I need to find me a keg of this stuff. And a keggerator. And a place to put it. And wifely permission. That last may be the most difficult. One of the reasons she married me was because I didn't drink much. Well hell, I only didn't drink much because I never had Koestritzer before. Time to play catch-up.....
